1. About VAE
VAE is a privately operated AI companion application intended for limited personal use. It provides text-based conversations through a separately hosted Brain service.

2. Information VAE Processes
VAE processes the text messages you submit and the AI-generated replies you receive. It also uses conversation identifiers, message identifiers, and technical metadata to manage conversation history and handle requests reliably.
The application may process connection status and operational error information for troubleshooting.
If Google identity authorization is used, VAE may process basic account identity information, including your Google account identifier, email address, and profile information. The current application does not request access to Google Calendar, Gmail, Drive, or Photos.
3. How Information Is Used
Information is used to provide AI conversations, maintain available conversation context, authenticate connections, and operate and troubleshoot the application.
You control what personal information you choose to include in your messages. Information you share may be included in conversation content sent for AI processing.
4. AI Processing and Third-Party Services
VAE sends conversation content to its privately hosted Brain service. The Brain service sends information needed to generate replies, including message text and relevant conversation context, to the OpenAI API.
OpenAI processes this information according to its applicable API data-handling policies. VAE requests that OpenAI not store generated responses as application state, but OpenAI may retain certain information for security, abuse prevention, and service operation.

Google services may process basic identity information when Google authorization is used. Google's privacy policy is available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
5. Conversation Storage and Retention
The current VAE Brain maintains conversation history in the memory of the computer running the Brain service. This history is available while that service is running and is lost when the Brain process stops or restarts.
The current application does not provide permanent conversation storage or a durable personal-memory database.
The application may retain locally stored connection credentials and configuration information separately from conversation history.
External service providers may retain information under their own applicable policies and retention practices.
6. Security and Access
VAE uses an application token to authenticate with its Brain service. Its remote Brain connection is provided over HTTPS through a private Tailscale network.
The Brain service is hosted on a privately managed computer. Access to that computer and its configuration is managed by the operator.
No internet-connected system can be guaranteed completely secure.
7. Your Choices and Privacy Requests
You may choose what information to include in your conversations.
The current application does not offer an in-app conversation deletion or correction function. Sending a correction creates a new message rather than changing an earlier one. Conversation history held in the Brain's memory is cleared when the Brain process stops or restarts.

Requests involving information held by third-party providers may also be subject to those providers' procedures and retention requirements.
8. Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated when VAE's features, data handling, or connected services change. Updates will be published on this page with a revised effective date.
